Password Strength Checker

Instantly analyze your password's security. Check length, complexity, and vulnerability patterns — all in your browser, never sent anywhere.

How to Use the Password Strength Checker

Type or paste a password to see its strength score in real time, along with the factors behind it: length, character variety, common-pattern penalties and estimated crack time. The Generate button creates a strong random password you can copy with one click.

Use it to audit passwords you already use, or to generate new ones for accounts that matter. A strong password is long (12+ characters), mixes uppercase, lowercase, digits and symbols, and avoids dictionary words, names and obvious sequences.

Remember: no password is safe if reused across sites. Use the generator to create unique passwords and store them in a password manager - strength alone does not protect you from credential stuffing on other websites.

When checking an existing password, type it once and clear the field afterward - the tool never stores what you enter. For shared accounts, generate a strong password here and distribute it through a password manager rather than chat or email.

How Password Strength Is Calculated

Measured in bits of entropy. Higher entropy = longer crack time. <28 bits = very weak (cracked instantly). 60-79 bits = strong (centuries). 80+ bits = very strong (millions of years).

Common Password Mistakes

Frequently Asked Questions

Is my password sent to your server?

No. All analysis happens in your browser. We never see or store your password.

What password length is safe?

Minimum 12 characters. For email and banking, 16+.

Should I use a password manager?

Yes. Bitwarden (free), 1Password, or Apple Keychain generate and store unique passwords.

Does two-factor authentication help?

Yes. Enable 2FA on all accounts that support it — even if your password is stolen, attackers can't access your account.
